Vision and Mission

OnlineDoctor’s vision is to transform the doctor’s practice visit along a digital-first approach. In doing so, we want to create a better and more sustainable healthcare system, developed from the medical centre and for the benefit of all patients. With this, OnlineDoctor, together with the medical network of over 800 dermatologists, is committed to teledermatology: With OnlineDoctor, every practice is enabled to offer its patients fast, affordable and high-quality dermatological care.

Our History

At the SME Institute of the University of St. Gallen, Dr. Philipp Wustrow and Dr. Tobias Wolf met the dermatologist Dr. Paul Scheidegger in a business seminar for doctors in 2016. Dr. Scheidegger approached the two seminar leaders to talk about the inefficient and unsafe ways in which patients asked him for help with their skin problems via email, WhatsApp or SMS. They noticed together that most of Dr. Scheidegger’s colleagues were receiving requests through such inappropriate channels. This medical problem gave rise to the idea of OnlineDoctor.

The Future of Teledermatology

OnlineDoctor is pursuing the goal of bringing the first AI-based medical product in the field of teledermatology to market maturity. An internal AI team is developing the technology for diagnosing skin diseases.

This AI bundles the experience of more than 800 dermatologists, who will thus be supported in their medical work by the technology as digital assistance in the future. The specialist knowledge of the network thus contains about 5,000 years of aggregated competence and thus generates specialist swarm intelligence and the basis for training the OnlineDoctor AI.

An AI-supported medical product in teledermatology can create the basis for every diagnosis that is made digitally to be a combinatorics of specialist expertise and AI. This is how OnlineDoctor wants to actively shape the future of digital dermatology. Read more about it in this t3n-article.

In Switzerland, the company started in 2017 and has cooperations with health insurers such as CSS, Swica and Sympany. In addition, 50% of the statutory health insurers in Germany have already decided to cooperate with OnlineDoctor. This makes us the only provider whose service is covered by statutory health insurers. This confirms our mission to revolutionise dermatological treatment and proves that we have developed a trustworthy product that creates real added value for patients.

We already work with over 300 pharmacies in Switzerland. With our OnlineDoctor Pro app, pharmacy staff can offer their customers the OnlineDoctor skin check directly on site.
